Funky Villa Garden Restaurant Lounge is an innovative architectural restoration and interior design project that transformed a historic residence from the Republic of China period into a contemporary dining establishment, exemplifying the harmonious fusion of historical preservation and modern commercial design. Located in Nanjing, China, adjacent to the National Theater, this 365-square-meter space underwent a meticulous two-year design process to create a sophisticated dining environment that honors its architectural heritage while introducing contemporary elements. The design, conceived by YunHai Zhao and team, employs a distinctive color palette of red, white, and black, incorporating irregular geometric shapes throughout the space to create intimate dining areas. The interior features white marble countertops adorned with floral arrangements, copper floor lamps, and strategic red lighting elements that contribute to its romantic ambiance. A significant architectural innovation involves the transformation of the building's roof into an elevated corridor and open-air garden, effectively expanding the originally limited space and creating an immersive dining experience surrounded by flowers and greenery. The design's material composition primarily consists of steel structure, white marble, and abundant botanical elements, creating a seamless integration between indoor and outdoor spaces. The project, which opened in October 2017, received recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its excellence in spatial design and historical preservation.
