Fun House Children's play house is an innovative architectural transformation project that exemplifies the intersection of child-centered design and functional spatial planning, created by architects Tienyu Wu and Chiiyang Chen. This three-story structure, measuring 3.5 meters in width and 14.5 meters in depth, represents a comprehensive reimagining of a 40-year-old traditional building into a dynamic children's play environment. The design philosophy centers on creating a nurturing space that fosters creativity, learning, and parent-child interaction through thoughtfully crafted elements including two integrated slides and dual playhouses. Distinguished by its commitment to sustainable and health-conscious design, the structure incorporates premium natural materials such as Thuja plicata wood, Nordic pine, and tempered glass, all treated with eco-friendly de-formaldehyde coating to ensure children's safety. The architectural program successfully addresses three primary objectives: the implementation of natural and safe materials, the creation of spaces that promote happiness for both children and parents, and the integration of adequate storage solutions. This innovative project, which earned the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional attention to child-scale ergonomics and safety considerations while maintaining aesthetic sophistication through soft color palettes and clean design elements. The transformation process, completed between September 2017 and January 2018 in Chaiyi, Taiwan, included the strategic reconstruction of the central staircase to accommodate both vehicular storage and safe child circulation, exemplifying the project's successful balance of practical functionality with imaginative design.
