FU House Residential House

FU House Residential House

FU House Residential House is an innovative residential architectural project completed in 2016 in Shunan City, Yamaguchi, Japan, that masterfully explores the interplay between built form and natural elements through a sophisticated composition of three white L-shaped concrete slabs. This remarkable structure, designed by architect Katsufumi Kubota, represents a profound meditation on the relationship between industrial landscapes and domestic architecture, drawing inspiration from the surrounding industrial zone of the Seto Inland Sea. The design's conceptual framework centers on the manipulation of light, shadow, wind, and space through the three-dimensional intersection of reinforced concrete slabs, creating a dynamic living environment that spans 148.53 square meters of total floor area on a 217.15-square-meter site. The architectural composition demonstrates exceptional spatial innovation through its distinctive arrangement of L-shaped elements, which function as both structural components and environmental mediators, allowing natural light to filter through and wind to circulate freely throughout the residence. The project, which earned the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, exemplifies a sophisticated approach to contemporary Japanese residential architecture, successfully balancing aesthetic minimalism with functional sophistication. The design's response to its industrial context, while maintaining a serene domestic atmosphere, showcases an exceptional understanding of environmental dynamics and human spatial experience, creating spaces that serve as catalysts for the interaction between natural phenomena and human emotions.
