Fresh Mobile Application is an innovative digital solution designed to combat food waste by helping users track and manage their food inventory and consumption patterns. This sophisticated mobile application, developed under the creative direction of Deyin Zhang with a team of designers and programmers, addresses the critical global issue of food waste, which accounts for approximately 1.3 billion tons of discarded food annually, valued at nearly one trillion U.S. dollars. The application employs an intuitive interface that allows users to scan shopping lists and manually input food items, creating a comprehensive digital inventory of their refrigerator contents. A distinguishing feature of the application is its intelligent shelf-life tracking system, which utilizes a color-coded alert mechanism - green, yellow, and red prompt boxes - to visually indicate the freshness status of stored items, effectively preventing food spoilage through timely notifications. The application further enhances user awareness through detailed analytics, providing weekly waste reports and cumulative statistics that educate users about sustainable consumption patterns. Launched for both iOS and Android platforms, this solution represents a significant advancement in sustainable technology design, earning recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Sustainable Products, Projects and Green Design category. The application's development, which began in January 2022, emerged from extensive research and community interviews conducted at Zhejiang University, focusing on shopping habits and food storage behaviors in Chinese households. Through its user-centric design approach and emphasis on behavioral change, the application serves as a practical tool for promoting environmental consciousness and reducing household food waste.
