Francisco Iturrino

Francisco Iturrino was a Spanish painter who lived from 1864 to 1924. He was a pioneer of abstract art and was known for his daring use of color, shape, and perspective. Iturrino's works often explored themes such as nature, urban life, and the human condition, while still managing to remain timeless and evocative. His iconic pieces, including ‘Cordoba’, ‘The Valley of the River’, ‘The Amulet’ and ‘The Sea of the South’, have all contributed to his legacy as an artist who pushed boundaries and inspired others to do the same. Iturrino was born in Santander, Spain, and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. He was heavily influenced by the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movements, as well as by the work of Paul Cézanne. Iturrino's early works were more traditional in style, but he gradually began to experiment with abstraction, incorporating the human figure into his works in ways that were unconventional for the time. Iturrino's use of color was particularly innovative, as he often used bright, bold hues that were not traditionally associated with fine art. His works were also characterized by their dynamic compositions and unconventional use of perspective, which gave them a sense of movement and energy. Despite his contributions to the art world, Iturrino was not widely recognized during his lifetime. It was only after his death that his works began to gain wider recognition, and today he is regarded as one of the most important Spanish painters of the early 20th century.
