Focal Point Lamp

Focal Point Lamp

Focal Point Lamp is an innovative lighting fixture that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of geometric minimalism and functional versatility in contemporary lighting design. Created by Canadian designer Chifen Cheng, this sophisticated illumination source features a distinctive composition of a white milky porcelain cube that pivots around a solid copper rod, complemented by a mint green cloth-covered cord that adds a subtle chromatic accent. The design's primary element, the cubic porcelain shade, represents a significant technical achievement in slip casting, as creating perfect cubic forms in porcelain presents considerable manufacturing challenges. The 10mm copper rod, precisely bent using a specialized jig, serves both as a structural support and an aesthetic element, while housing an LED light source within the porcelain cube that can be adjusted to various positions through a simple mechanical interaction. Measuring 392 x 318 x 376 millimeters, this limited edition lamp demonstrates exceptional attention to material selection and craftsmanship, combining the timeless qualities of copper and porcelain with modern LED technology. The design, which was developed between January 2014 and January 2015 in Montreal, has garnered international recognition, including an Iron A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, acknowledging its contribution to innovative lighting solutions. The lamp's ability to provide different lighting positions makes it adaptable to various environmental contexts and user preferences, while its clean, geometric aesthetic makes it suitable for both residential and commercial applications.
