Floral Water

Floral water, also known as hydrosol, is a byproduct of the steam distillation process used to extract essential oils from plants. During the distillation process, water is heated and turned into steam, which passes through the plant material and extracts the essential oil. The steam is then cooled and condensed back into a liquid, resulting in two separate products: the essential oil and the floral water. Floral water contains the water-soluble components of the plant, as well as a small amount of essential oil. It has a much milder aroma than the essential oil, and is often used as a natural alternative to synthetic fragrances in cosmetics, perfumes, and other personal care products. Floral water is also used in aromatherapy, where it is believed to have therapeutic properties similar to those of the essential oil. Different types of floral water are produced depending on the plant material used in the distillation process. For example, rose water is a popular floral water made from the petals of the rose plant, while lavender water is made from the flowers of the lavender plant. Other common floral waters include chamomile, neroli, and geranium. Floral water has a variety of uses beyond cosmetics and aromatherapy. It is often used in cooking and baking as a natural flavoring agent, particularly in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines. It can also be used as a natural cleaning agent, due to its mild antibacterial properties.
