Floating Light Residence is an innovative architectural interior design project completed in 2019 in Taichung City, Taiwan, that masterfully integrates natural light, spatial harmony, and emotional resonance within a four-story residential building. The design, conceived by George PC Kao and Hsin I Lin, draws profound inspiration from ancient Chinese poetic prose to create a sophisticated vertical spatial arrangement that transforms the conventional understanding of interior circulation and lighting. The residence employs an avant-garde design vocabulary that establishes a compelling interplay between light and shadow, incorporating imported natural masonry materials and mineral paints to achieve a pure, rhythmic spatial quality. A central atrium serves as the heart of the design, facilitating dramatic natural light patterns throughout the day while creating an ethereal atmosphere that reflects the project's namesake. The innovative approach to spatial configuration draws parallel to the classic game of Snake, introducing a temporal dimension to the spatial experience as light traverses freely throughout the interior.
