FLOAT. Packaging For Soap
FLOAT. Packaging for Soap is an innovative packaging design solution that exemplifies the intersection of artistic expression and functional design, created by Singaporean designer Wang Min. This sophisticated packaging concept, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category, draws inspiration from the ethereal qualities of soap bubbles and embraces the philosophical notion of 'Life Imitates Art' to create a meaningful experience for millennial consumers. The design features a remarkably efficient construction method utilizing a single sheet of 200 gsm paper stock, complemented by plastic transparency and clear stickers with white UV printing, measuring 70mm in width, 30mm in depth, and 70mm in height. The packaging's distinctive characteristic lies in its ability to showcase the product while maintaining production efficiency, achieved through an ingenious folding mechanism that eliminates the need for traditional box templates. The design incorporates paint-like graphic forms translated from the colors, form, and vibrancy of bubbles, resulting in abstract artistic expressions that transform everyday personal care items into aesthetic statements. The packaging's functionality extends beyond mere product protection, as it cleverly integrates product information and instructions on the interior surface, reducing paper waste while maintaining informational clarity. A notable feature is the innovative transformation of the die-cut material into a discount card, adding value to what would typically be discarded material. This thoughtful approach to packaging design, developed between August and December 2016 in Singapore, demonstrates a harmonious balance between practical functionality, environmental consciousness, and artistic merit, while successfully addressing the contemporary needs of its target demographic through its minimalist yet expressive design language.
