Float Exhibition Space
Float Exhibition Space is an innovative permanent exhibition environment designed to showcase metal products and advanced tooling applications, distinguished by its unique floating aesthetic and kinetic elements. Located in Kaohsiung city, Taiwan, this 150-square-meter exhibition space revolutionizes the conventional perception of metal's heaviness through its sophisticated design approach. The space's centerpiece features forty CNC-milled, gold-polished metal pendants in Koma shape, orchestrated through programmed kinetic movements that create a dynamic visual experience. The exhibition layout incorporates eight pentagonal floating display shelves, constructed with tempered glass in varying diameters of 125 cm and 92 cm, which contribute to the overall floating aesthetic. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project, conceived by designers Daisuke Nagatomo and Minnie Jan, demonstrates exceptional integration of digital technologies and artistic vision. The installation presented significant technical challenges, particularly in the mounting of the 400-kilogram kinetic movement structure, which required precise engineering to harmonize with the existing architectural elements. The space's innovative design approach extends to its carefully considered lighting setup, creating a homogeneous atmosphere that enhances the presentation of metal products. Completed in early 2018, the exhibition space serves as a testament to the possibilities of combining advanced digital fabrication techniques with thoughtful spatial design, offering a flexible platform for various themed exhibitions while maintaining its core identity as a showcase for innovative metal applications.
