Fishes Migrating Sushi Restaurant
Fishes Migrating Sushi Restaurant is an innovative interior design project that reimagines the traditional Japanese sushi dining experience through contemporary spatial design and artistic elements. Located in Taipei, Taiwan, this 178-square-meter establishment distinguishes itself from conventional sushi restaurants by departing from typical somber aesthetics in favor of a bright, modern atmosphere. The design's signature feature consists of circular acrylic sheets in varying tangerine hues adorning the wall surfaces, creating an artistic representation of migratory fish that serves as both a decorative element and a thematic anchor. The spatial arrangement centers around a strategically positioned sushi counter in the central area, effectively incorporating existing structural elements while creating an engaging dining environment. The interior demonstrates exceptional attention to detail through its thoughtfully curated elements, including Hydrofluoric acid-etched glass kitchen walls, golden ceiling lamps, and a sophisticated color palette that pairs tangerine-colored bar stools with gray seating areas. The design, which won an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, successfully addresses multiple functional requirements through diverse seating arrangements, including bar stools for individual diners, paired seating, and curved booth configurations. The space is further enhanced by large floor-to-ceiling windows that maximize natural light and provide views of the tree-lined street, while the restroom area features a distinctive combination of sky blue and living green walls that reinforces the design's fresh, contemporary approach. The project, completed in February 2019 under the direction of Cheng Ling Lee and designed by Mei Hsuan Chiu, exemplifies how thoughtful interior design can transform the dining experience while maintaining operational efficiency through separated kitchen and sushi counter areas that optimize traffic flow.
