Fingernail Tips
Fingernail tips refer to the distal end of the nail plate, which is the hard, keratinized structure that covers the nail bed. The nail plate is composed of several layers of dead, flattened cells that are continuously produced by the nail matrix, a specialized structure located at the base of the nail. The nail plate grows forward, sliding over the nail bed, until it reaches the free edge, which is the part of the nail that extends beyond the fingertip. At the free edge, the nail plate becomes thinner and more flexible, forming the fingernail tip. The shape and appearance of the fingernail tip can vary depending on factors such as genetics, age, health status, and environmental factors. In general, the fingernail tip should be smooth, symmetrical, and free of irregularities or deformities. However, certain conditions can affect the appearance and texture of the nail plate, such as nail psoriasis, fungal infections, trauma, or nutritional deficiencies. Proper nail care can help maintain the health and appearance of the fingernail tips. This includes keeping the nails clean and dry, avoiding harsh chemicals or excessive moisture, trimming the nails regularly with clean, sharp tools, and protecting the nails from injury or trauma. In some cases, medical treatment may be necessary to address underlying conditions that affect the nails.
