Fencing Epees

Fencing epees are one of the three weapons used in the sport of fencing, along with foil and sabre. Epee fencing is characterized by its emphasis on point control and accuracy, as the entire body is a valid target area. The epee itself is a long, narrow sword with a triangular cross-section that tapers to a sharp point. It is typically around 35 inches in length and weighs approximately 27 ounces. In epee fencing, the objective is to touch your opponent with the tip of your epee while avoiding being touched yourself. Unlike foil and sabre, there are no right-of-way rules in epee fencing. This means that if both fencers hit each other at the same time, both will be awarded a point. The first fencer to score 15 points, or the fencer with the highest score at the end of the allotted time, wins the match. Epee fencing requires a high degree of skill and precision, as the target area is the entire body and the tip of the epee must be used to score a point. Fencers must also be able to quickly and accurately read their opponent's movements in order to anticipate and counter attacks. Epee fencers typically wear a full-body protective suit, including a mask, jacket, and gloves, to prevent injury.
