Ethan Allen was not only an artist but also a prominent figure in the American Revolution. He was born in 1738 in Litchfield, Connecticut, and became a leader of the Green Mountain Boys, a group of Vermont patriots who fought for independence from British rule. Allen and his men captured Fort Ticonderoga in 1775, a significant victory that provided much-needed artillery for the Continental Army. After the war, Allen became involved in politics and served as a representative in the Vermont legislature. He was also a strong advocate for the abolition of slavery and wrote several works on the subject.
