Estate Sales

Estate sales are a method of liquidating the belongings of a household, usually after the death of the owner or their transition into an assisted living facility, nursing home, or other downsizing situation. These sales typically involve the entire contents of the home, including furniture, appliances, clothing, jewelry, collectibles, and other personal items. Estate sales are often conducted on-site at the residence by professional estate sale companies or organizers who have expertise in appraising, pricing, and displaying the items for sale. The goal is to sell as much as possible within a short time frame, usually a weekend or a few days. Prices are generally set below market value to encourage quick sales, and items are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Estate sales differ from garage sales or yard sales in that they are usually more comprehensive, involving the entire contents of a home, and are conducted by professionals rather than the homeowners themselves. They also differ from auctions in that prices are fixed and items are sold directly to buyers, rather than to the highest bidder. Estate sales serve an important function in helping families deal with the often overwhelming task of clearing out a loved one's home and belongings, while also providing an opportunity for buyers to acquire unique, vintage, or high-quality items at reasonable prices.
