Essences of light Residential House is an innovative residential-and-business compound space located in Yilan City, Taiwan, distinguished by its sophisticated L-shaped architectural structure and awarded the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category. Designed by Jen-Hung Liao and Ching-Yu Lin, this 236-square-meter space masterfully integrates natural light through extensive glass curtains and strategic brick placement, creating dynamic light variations throughout the day. The architectural design emphasizes spatial fluidity through an open-style layout that enhances visual perception and facilitates smooth traffic flow. The second floor's public area demonstrates exceptional space planning, utilizing furniture elements such as couches, dining tables, and cabinets as natural space dividers, while featuring an architecturally striking slant ceiling. The master bedroom showcases exquisite craftsmanship through extensive wooden implementations in the ceiling, floors, and closets, establishing a modern yet comfortable atmosphere. The design's innovative approach extends to its column-free structure, which visually amplifies the interior space, while the integration of fair-faced concrete walls, refined grey bricks, and elegant wall shelves creates a capacious office environment. The project, completed in January 2018, exemplifies contemporary architectural principles through its minimalist approach, emphasizing material authenticity and spatial purity while creating a harmonious balance between functional requirements and aesthetic excellence. The courtyard's integration with indoor spaces through glass walls creates an expansive visual experience, where natural elements and sunlight combine to create an impressionistic effect, demonstrating the designer's commitment to creating spaces that transcend mere functionality to become expressions of self-worth and meaning.
