ERC Cafe Commercial Space
ERC Cafe Commercial Space is an innovative commercial interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of contemporary cafe culture with architectural elements, completed in February 2019 in New Taipei City, Taiwan. Designed by Ya Wun Yang and Yun Fang Huang, this 218-square-meter establishment spans two levels and demonstrates a sophisticated approach to modern cafe design through its greenhouse-inspired layout and thoughtful spatial planning. The design's distinctive features include full-height windows, red brick walls, and an innovative fabric installation that creates dynamic visual experiences through light diffusion and spatial demarcation. The project's architectural vocabulary is characterized by arch-shaped elements and tree-shaped props, which establish a serene atmosphere while maintaining a strong connection to the building's dramatic exterior architecture. The interior space incorporates a careful balance of materials, combining robust metal work, translucent fabrics, and authentic red brick walls to achieve a refined loft aesthetic with feminine touches. The spatial organization maximizes functionality through strategic placement of service areas, featuring an expanded double-ceiling height at the entrance and an optimized kitchen layout that enhances operational flow. This design, which won the Golden A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2020, successfully addresses multiple design challenges, including the innovative implementation of fabric elements for both aesthetic and practical purposes, while creating distinct zones for various seating arrangements including sofa areas, bar stool sections, and community tables.
