Ep Restaurant Restaurant is an innovative architectural and interior design project completed in 2017 in Jiaxing, China, that exemplifies the harmonious integration of indoor and outdoor spaces through thoughtful design interventions. The project, which won an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, represents a significant transformation of a two-story modern building, focusing on upgrading the first floor while maintaining the existing second-floor functionality. The design philosophy centers on exploring spatial elements and blurring traditional boundaries between interior and exterior spaces, creating a progressive form of indoor-outdoor natural courtyard space. The 300-square-meter restaurant features a sophisticated structural addition made with a steel framework, incorporating transparent glass partitions and an innovative opening/closing glass door system facing the riverfront. The design's distinctive characteristic lies in its ability to seamlessly blend the interior with the surrounding natural environment, where garden plants and trees become integral elements of the interior space when the doors are fully opened. Technical excellence is demonstrated through the careful concealment of lighting fixtures and survey equipment, achieving a lightweight and uncluttered aesthetic. The material palette, combining terrazzo and wood, contributes to the space's modern yet organic feel. The project's expansion included the addition of an indoor coffee zone on the first floor and an open terrace on the second floor, maintaining the original building's integrity while introducing contemporary design elements. This architectural intervention, recognized for its excellence through the A' Design Award, successfully addresses the challenges of creating a harmonious dialogue between built environment and nature, offering diners an immersive experience that transcends traditional spatial boundaries.
