Enlighten Smart desk lamp is an innovative digital workspace solution that revolutionizes traditional desk lighting and workspace management through advanced projection technology and interactive capabilities. Designed by Youju Lee and Yongjong Jhoo, this sophisticated device integrates two distinct projectors—one covering the desk surface and another for the wall—alongside a depth camera that tracks user movements for tangible interaction. The lamp's primary function extends beyond conventional illumination, transforming adjacent surfaces into interactive display areas that liberate users from the constraints of traditional monitor screens. Standing at 550mm in height, with a width of 500mm and depth of 100mm, the lamp features a sleek construction utilizing ABS plastic, steel, and aluminum components with polyester powder coating and precise CNC manufacturing. The device activates through an intuitive tap-and-hold mechanism on the top section, which elevates the body and initiates the projection system. This smart lighting solution addresses the contemporary challenges of digital workspace management, enabling users to simultaneously handle multiple information streams without the repetitive task-switching that typically disrupts workflow. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Digital and Electronic Device Design category in 2018, demonstrates exceptional innovation in both functionality and user experience. Its ability to enhance workspace efficiency while maintaining desk organization represents a significant advancement in office technology, offering improved security features when deactivated and contributing to a cleaner, more organized work environment. The project, developed between April and September 2017 in Pasadena, California, emerged from extensive user research and testing to optimize information handling and workspace interaction patterns.
