EnLighten Phone Use Tracking Lamp
enLighten Phone Use Tracking Lamp is an innovative behavioral design solution that addresses the growing concern of excessive phone usage during bedtime hours. This hourglass-shaped bedside lamp, designed by Shreyans Bhandari, represents a sophisticated intersection of lighting design and digital wellness technology, incorporating smart features that monitor and respond to users' phone interaction patterns. The device employs a dynamic color-transition system, shifting from a calming mint green to an attention-grabbing pulsating red as phone usage extends, creating a visual reminder of digital consumption habits. Distinguished by its thoughtful approach to behavioral modification, the lamp operates through a sophisticated Arduino-based system with Bluetooth BLE connectivity, allowing seamless communication with a companion mobile application that enables users to set personalized usage goals and track specific applications. The design, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the 3D Printed Forms and Products Design category, showcases exceptional versatility through its 3D-printed nylon construction, measuring 4 inches in length, 4 inches in width, and 12 inches in height. What sets this lamp apart is its unique reward mechanism, where the light transitions back to its original pleasant green hue when users demonstrate reduced screen time, effectively encouraging positive behavioral changes. The development process involved extensive research, including consultations with behavioral design experts and feedback from approximately 100 users, resulting in a product that thoughtfully addresses the contemporary challenges of digital addiction and its impact on sleep patterns, psychological well-being, and interpersonal relationships.
