Empty Information Communication Books
Empty Information Communication Books is an innovative experimental design project that explores the phenomenon of information overload and content superficiality in contemporary digital communication. Created by designer Meiqi Guan, this conceptual work manifests as a series of books crafted entirely from balloon material, serving as a powerful metaphor for the emptiness of much modern digital content. The design, which won an Iron A' Design Award in the Advertising, Marketing and Communication Design category, cleverly integrates physical and digital elements through AR (Augmented Reality) interaction, allowing viewers to scan patterns on the books to reveal dynamic balloon graphics that symbolize various aspects of contemporary marketing behaviors. The project employs sophisticated visual metaphors, with the balloon material specifically chosen to represent the inflated yet ultimately empty nature of much digital content, while simple patterns painted on the surface represent different marketing account behaviors. The work encompasses five distinct representations: monetary influence in content distribution, superficial content masquerading as substance, repetitive content across platforms, manipulated information, and unauthorized content appropriation. Through its innovative combination of physical books, AR technology, and conceptual design, this project offers a critical commentary on contemporary information consumption patterns, encouraging viewers to engage more thoughtfully with digital content. The design utilizes various production technologies including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects, presenting its message through multiple formats including A3 posters and digital presentations, making it a comprehensive exploration of modern communication challenges in the fast-paced digital era.
