Emotional Object #018: ExCentric Office Furniture

Emotional Object #018: ExCentric Office furniture is an innovative and conceptually distinctive office furniture collection that deliberately challenges conventional design principles through its intentionally misaligned aesthetic composition. Created by Portuguese architect João Faria, this avant-garde furniture series embodies a philosophical approach that transcends pure functionality, introducing an element of playful disruption into the traditional office environment. The collection, which garnered recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, comprises essential office elements including a desk (2000 x 800 x 740 mm), sideboard (2000 x 500 x 740 mm), coffee table (1000 x 1000 x 300 mm), and bookcase (2200 x 2200 x 400 mm). Each piece features a sophisticated combination of veneered or lacquered MDF and polished or brushed stainless steel, crafted through a meticulous blend of traditional artisanal techniques and modern laser-cutting technology. The design's distinctive characteristic lies in its gravity-defying appearance, where supporting structures and volumes are purposefully offset to create a sense of controlled imbalance. This unconventional approach not only challenges spatial perception but also integrates practical functionality through hidden technological features such as embedded power sockets, computer integration capabilities, and wireless connectivity options. The furniture's construction demonstrates exceptional attention to detail in achieving precise angular cuts while maintaining structural integrity, resulting in pieces that provoke intellectual engagement while fulfilling their practical purpose in a contemporary office setting.
