Ember Restaurant is an innovative steakhouse concept located in the George Bush Intercontinental Airport, exemplifying a sophisticated blend of traditional steakhouse aesthetics with contemporary design elements. The 354-square-meter establishment, winner of the Golden A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, showcases an impressive architectural feature of 6,225 copper Texas stars suspended overhead, creating a dramatic canopy effect that pays homage to local culture. The restaurant's design masterfully incorporates classic materials including black and white tiles, copper accents, blackened metal, and wood elements, establishing an atmosphere that echoes the elegance of traditional urban steakhouses. The 127-seat dining space features thoughtfully designed elements such as tufted red leather banquettes, wood plank ceilings adorned with copper pipe chandeliers, and exposed Edison bulbs that create an intimate ambiance. A distinctive feature is its 360-degree exposure to the terminal, complemented by an open-fire, wood-burning grill visible through a glass-enclosed display kitchen framed in contrasting black and white subway tiles. The establishment integrates modern technology through tablet-based ordering systems that enhance the dining experience while offering entertainment options and flight information. The design successfully addresses the challenge of coordinating construction with the terminal's development, resulting in a seamless integration of hospitality and transit spaces. The restaurant's social media-friendly design elements, including an illuminated sign featuring fairground letters and neon lights, contribute to its contemporary appeal while maintaining its sophisticated steakhouse identity.
