Electric Ignition Coils
Electric ignition coils are an essential component of the ignition system in most modern internal combustion engines. The primary function of the ignition coil is to transform the low voltage from the battery into the high voltage required to ignite the fuel mixture in the engine's combustion chamber. The ignition coil is a type of transformer that consists of two coils of wire wrapped around a magnetic core. The primary coil is connected to the battery, and the secondary coil is connected to the spark plugs. When the ignition switch is turned on, the battery sends a low voltage current through the primary coil, which creates a magnetic field around the core. When the current is interrupted, the magnetic field collapses, and a high voltage current is induced in the secondary coil. This high voltage current is then sent to the spark plugs, which ignite the fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. Electric ignition coils come in a variety of shapes and sizes, depending on the make and model of the vehicle. Some vehicles have a single ignition coil that serves all the spark plugs, while others have multiple ignition coils, with each coil serving one or two spark plugs. The design of the ignition coil has evolved over the years, with newer models incorporating advanced materials and electronics to improve performance and reliability. In summary, electric ignition coils are a critical component of the ignition system in most modern internal combustion engines. They transform the low voltage from the battery into the high voltage required to ignite the fuel mixture in the engine's combustion chamber. The design of the ignition coil has evolved over the years, with newer models incorporating advanced materials and electronics to improve performance and reliability.
