Eatime Space Dining and Working is an innovative interior design project that masterfully combines dining and working spaces through a sophisticated industrial-workshop aesthetic, completed in Nanjing, China. This 1,024-square-meter underground space, designed by Liang Ding and Yuefeng Zhou, draws inspiration from the Chinese phonetic similarity between Eatime and time, creating a meaningful connection between temporal experience and spatial design. The project's distinctive feature lies in its Rubik's cube-like modular units that create a dynamic, three-dimensional environment allowing visitors to move freely between different levels while engaging in dining or work activities. The design incorporates industrial elements such as exposed ceiling pipes, meticulously arranged in linear patterns, complemented by a thoughtful material palette including cement tiles, ceramic tiles, reinforced wood flooring, and metallic-painted surfaces. Notable design elements include suspended giant inner watch structures and diverse horological displays arranged rhythmically on walls, reinforcing the temporal theme throughout the space. The project, which received the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design, exemplifies a harmonious blend of raw and finished décor elements, successfully addressing practical challenges such as existing pipe integration while maintaining aesthetic coherence. The space serves as a contemplative environment where people can eat, work, and reflect, with its industrial-workshop aesthetic paying homage to the fundamental principles of design while creating a unique atmospheric experience that bridges past and present through its thoughtful material selection and spatial organization.
