Early Spring And Poetry Residence
Early Spring and Poetry Residence is an award-winning architectural masterpiece that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Hakka architecture with contemporary design sensibilities, completed in 2017 in Miaoli, Taiwan. This sophisticated residential project, spanning 992 square meters of interior space and 662 square meters of landscape design, was masterfully crafted by designers Yu-Da Wang and Nails-Cheng Hsu to create a poetic dialogue between traditional cultural elements and modern living requirements. The design philosophy draws inspiration from the artistic works of Wu Guan-Zhong, capturing the ethereal beauty of southern Yangtze River landscapes through its thoughtful incorporation of fresh spring colors, misty atmospheres, and the iconic black-tile-white-wall aesthetic characteristic of traditional architecture. The residence features innovative sustainable technologies, including a heat pump system with heat storage capabilities for water heating and an advanced rainwater recovery system integrated beneath the turf. The interior space planning maintains authentic Hakka architectural elements, with the main hall, study room, kitchen, and guest rooms seamlessly incorporating traditional motifs within a contemporary oriental ink painting aesthetic. The project's environmental consciousness is evident in its use of algae earth for air purification and humidity control, while carbonized heat-treated wood boards provide superior insect resistance and moisture protection. A distinctive half-moon pond, traditionally used for water storage and fire prevention, serves as a focal point in the plaza, symbolizing the cultural significance of water elements in Hakka architecture. The project, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, represents a remarkable achievement in sustainable, culturally-sensitive residential design.
