Dwelling S Residential is an award-winning interior space design project that exemplifies the contemporary synthesis of luxury hospitality aesthetics with residential functionality, achieved through the strategic merger of two separate residential units into a cohesive 578.5-square-meter living environment in Taiwan. Designed by Hsiu-Ju Hsu of Qu Space Design and completed in August 2023, this residential interior represents a sophisticated response to the client's desire for a dwelling that captures the refined comfort of high-end hotel accommodations while maintaining the intimate warmth characteristic of private domestic spaces. The project's conceptual foundation stems from the owner's extensive travel experiences and appreciation for curated living, which informed the design's emphasis on creating distinct spatial zones that balance social interaction with personal privacy. The architectural intervention encompasses a comprehensive four-bedroom layout supplemented by specialized spaces including a living room, dining room, audio-visual area, gymnasium, reading room, and children's playroom, with circulation patterns deliberately configured to separate public and private domains. Central to the design's material vocabulary is the extensive application of large-format slab tiles, Venetian paint, and marble-textured stone tiles, unified through a predominantly dark color palette that establishes an atmosphere of understated luxury and contemporary sophistication. The black Venetian special paint, with its metallic shimmer and pearlescent veil effect, creates dynamic visual interest that responds to changing natural and artificial lighting conditions throughout the day, while darker tones in private areas such as the wine cellar and audio-visual room enhance the sense of intimacy and retreat. The dining area functions as the social centerpiece of the residence, featuring an exquisite piano that reinforces the space's artistic character, complemented by a suspended kitchen island dining table constructed from a combination of stone and wood that eliminates traditional square chair legs to achieve both aesthetic refinement and child safety. The fully transparent wine cellar, enclosed by stone-like exterior surfaces, represents a particularly innovative design element that addresses the owner's extensive collection while serving as a focal point that expresses personal taste and connoisseurship. The project successfully navigated significant design challenges, including the accommodation of substantial storage requirements within the spatial constraints and the reconfiguration of plumbing systems to position bathtubs facing windows in each bathroom according to the owner's specific preferences. The large windows throughout the residence facilitate abundant natural light penetration, creating an open and comfortable atmosphere that enhances the perception of spatial generosity while establishing visual connections to the exterior environment. The design's functional zoning strategy enables the simultaneous accommodation of diverse activities without interference, allowing children's play and adult pursuits to occur independently while maintaining overall spatial coherence.
