Duration Neglect
Duration neglect is a phenomenon in which the subjective experience of time is not proportional to the actual duration of an event. In other words, the length of an event does not necessarily determine our perception of its importance or impact. This cognitive bias can have significant implications in various domains, including decision-making, memory, and emotional experiences. For instance, individuals may prioritize short-term gains over long-term benefits, as they tend to discount the future in favor of immediate gratification. Similarly, people may remember an event based on its peak moment or ending, rather than its overall duration. Moreover, the emotional intensity of an experience can overshadow its duration, leading to a distorted perception of time. Duration neglect can also affect our judgments of others' experiences. For example, we may underestimate the severity of someone's pain or suffering if we only consider its duration, without taking into account its intensity or impact on their life. Understanding duration neglect can help individuals make more informed decisions and avoid biases in their perceptions and judgments. By recognizing that the length of an event does not necessarily reflect its importance, individuals can focus on the quality and impact of their experiences, rather than their duration alone.

Duration Neglect
Duration Neglect is a cognitive bias that happens when people make judgments about things based on the length of time involved. For example, an 8 year old might think that a summer vacation should last longer than a day because it feels like a longer time period. But, in reality, it's not the length of time that matters, it's how you use it that counts.
