Dry-cleaning Preparations
Dry-cleaning preparations are chemical solutions used to clean fabrics and textiles that cannot be washed with water. These preparations are designed to remove dirt, stains, and odors from delicate fabrics such as silk, wool, and cashmere, as well as from garments that are too large or too bulky to be washed in a conventional washing machine. Dry-cleaning preparations typically consist of a solvent, a detergent, and various additives that help to enhance the cleaning performance of the solution. The most commonly used solvent in dry-cleaning preparations is perchloroethylene, also known as perc. Other solvents that may be used include petroleum-based solvents, glycol ethers, and liquid carbon dioxide. The detergent in dry-cleaning preparations is designed to emulsify and dissolve dirt and stains, while the additives help to improve the solubility of the detergent and the solvent, as well as to prevent the fabric from shrinking or losing its shape during the cleaning process. Some dry-cleaning preparations also contain fragrances or other ingredients that help to freshen and deodorize the fabric. Dry-cleaning preparations are typically used by professional dry cleaners, who have the equipment and expertise to safely and effectively clean delicate fabrics and textiles. However, there are also some consumer-grade dry-cleaning preparations available for use at home, which typically come in the form of pre-moistened wipes or sprays.
