Dream On Bar is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the artistic fusion of commercial space design with fine art inspiration, specifically drawing from Vincent van Gogh's masterpiece The Cafe Terrace on the Place du Forum. Located in Yilan, Taiwan, this 72-square-meter establishment transforms a narrow rectangular indoor space into an immersive nocturnal streetscape experience. The design, created by Hsiang Hsieh, masterfully addresses the spatial challenges of a corridor-like venue measuring 4.2 meters in width and 15.4 meters in length, with varying roof heights from 4.3 to 5.3 meters. The bar's distinctive features include carefully considered acoustic engineering through deliberately uneven wall surfaces, extensive use of locally sourced and recycled materials, and decorative second-hand windows that add temporal depth to the space. The design incorporates a sophisticated lighting scheme that creates a starry night effect, complemented by a retro-inspired color palette featuring mystic bluish-green tones. The bar's ergonomic considerations are evident in its thoughtful dimensions, with a 110-centimeter-high rectangular bar and strategically elevated side tables designed to accommodate standing guests during peak hours. This exemplary work of commercial interior design, which earned the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional achievement in combining functional space optimization with artistic vision, while maintaining strong commitments to sustainability and local architectural traditions.
