Draft Tokyo Office
Draft Tokyo Office is an innovative workplace design that masterfully balances open collaboration with individual privacy through its unique architectural approach. Located in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, this 320-square-meter office space represents a groundbreaking solution to the perpetual challenge of fostering communication while maintaining personal space in modern workplaces. The design, conceived by Taiju Yamashita and Saeko Takahashi, features an ingenious split-level layout where cubicles are positioned two steps below the hallway level, creating natural divisions without compromising visibility and interaction. The space incorporates sophisticated material choices, including mortar flooring, herringbone pattern wood, and concrete-look tiles, creating an industrial yet refined aesthetic. The 4.6-meter-high ceilings, complemented by transom windows, flood the space with natural light, while the clean industrial-style entrance, characterized by white-painted plumbing, sets a professional yet welcoming tone. The office seamlessly integrates technology through wall-mounted iPads for entry control and multi-monitor systems for global communication. Deliberate informal spaces, featuring L-shaped sofas and colorful seating areas on the loft level, promote spontaneous interaction and creative collaboration. This thoughtfully executed design, which won the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design, demonstrates exceptional spatial planning that enhances workplace dynamics while maintaining individual productivity zones. The project, completed in 2013, exemplifies how intelligent interior architecture can facilitate corporate culture and operational efficiency through its careful consideration of human behavioral patterns and organizational needs.
