Double Face Lamp

Double Face Lamp

Double Face Lamp is an innovative lighting solution designed by Guorong Wu and Xuhui Chen that seamlessly combines the functionality of a standard desk lamp with emergency lighting capabilities. This dual-purpose illumination device, crafted from lightweight yet durable aluminum alloy with a thermally-insulated plastic base, represents a thoughtful response to power outage scenarios particularly prevalent in developing regions. The lamp's distinguishing feature lies in its ingenious rotating upper section, which can be detached to serve as a portable flashlight when needed. Standing at 48 centimeters tall with an 18-centimeter square footprint, the Double Face Lamp incorporates an automatic charging system that maintains power reserves during normal operation, ensuring continuous illumination during blackouts. The design, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, exemplifies a harmonious blend of practical utility and contemporary aesthetics. Its development was driven by real-world challenges faced in regions experiencing frequent power interruptions, where consistent lighting is crucial for educational and professional activities. The lamp's innovative internal structure, despite its manufacturing complexity, successfully addresses these challenges through its dual-mode operation, allowing users to maintain productivity during power outages while offering mobility through its detachable flashlight feature. This design represents a significant advancement in adaptive lighting solutions, particularly beneficial for markets where power infrastructure may be less reliable.
