Diemme Multifunctional Academy

Diemme Multifunctional Academy is an innovative architectural interior design project that exemplifies the convergence of functionality, education, and commercial space within the coffee industry. Located in Padua, Italy, this 600-square-meter facility represents a sophisticated approach to multifunctional space design, incorporating a certified training school, research center, and showroom dedicated to coffee culture and expertise. The academy's design, conceived by architect Edoardo Gherardi and completed in 2019, features a thoughtfully organized sequence of spaces centered around coffee production and appreciation. The interior architecture employs a minimalist aesthetic where technological sophistication is deliberately understated, utilizing three primary materials: wood for furnishings and totems, glass for partitions, and metal for worktops and the internal patio. The space is ingeniously divided using wooden totems and glass walls with varying degrees of transparency, creating distinct yet interconnected areas including a bartender room, brewing room, roasting room, and packaging facilities. A complex technological infrastructure is seamlessly integrated into a sophisticated false ceiling system, accommodating lighting, sound, gas detection, fire safety, audio-visual equipment, and climate control. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design, demonstrates exceptional spatial organization through its central pathway that serves both as a narrative journey through coffee culture and as a gathering space. The academy's versatile design allows for multiple configurations, supporting activities ranging from professional training sessions to international competitions, while maintaining a focus on coffee preparation and blend selection.
