Dezanove House
Dezanove House is an innovative architectural masterpiece located in Ria da Arousa, Spain, that exemplifies the seamless integration of local cultural heritage with contemporary residential design. This remarkable structure, designed by architect Inaki Leite, draws its primary inspiration from the region's prominent mussel production industry, specifically incorporating reclaimed eucalyptus wood from bateas (mussel production platforms) in its construction. The residence consists of two interconnecting volumes that create a harmonious dialogue between private and public spaces, with the private section featuring distinctive folding wooden shutters and an exterior facade showcasing the raw, textured character of reclaimed wood. The public volume, conversely, presents a concrete exterior while housing the main living and dining areas, characterized by smooth-cut wood interiors that create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort. The house's design demonstrates exceptional environmental consciousness and cultural sensitivity, utilizing 625 beams of reclaimed eucalyptus wood throughout the project. The structure's innovative features include strategic positioning against natural rock formations for protection, south-facing glazing for optimal natural light, and carefully crafted interior spaces that frame views of the estuary. The project, completed after 14 months of construction and 16 months of material research and development, represents a significant achievement in sustainable architecture, earning recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category for its outstanding integration of local industrial heritage into residential architecture.
