Design Of Routers

Routers are electronic devices that facilitate communication between computer networks. They are responsible for directing data traffic to its desired destination in the most efficient way possible. A router is connected to at least two networks and uses headers and tables to determine the best path for packet transmission. This process is known as routing. Designing a router involves several essential criteria that must be considered to ensure it functions effectively. Firstly, it is important to determine the expected usage level of the router which will determine the processing power needed. Secondly, the number and type of ports required to ensure connectivity across networks must be considered. Thirdly, the routing protocol needs to be selected, as it is responsible for the routing table and path selection, which can greatly affect the speed and accuracy of transmissions. Fourthly, the physical design of the router, including the size and layout of components, should enable efficient cooling, maintenance, and repair. Lastly, it is important to consider the security features needed to protect the router and connected devices from cyber-attacks. To produce a well-designed router, it must be capable of handling peak usage loads without failure, have sufficient ports and protocols to support all connected devices and networks, be physically designed for easy maintenance, repair, and cooling, and provide adequate security features. Additionally, to differentiate from competitors, the router should be user-friendly, with a simple and intuitive installation process, and offer unique features such as custom optimization and analytics tools.
