Design Of Printed Electrical Circuits

Printed electrical circuits (PEC) are electrical circuits designed and printed on various substrates using conductive ink or metallic deposition techniques. PEC have numerous applications in electronic devices, ranging from simple circuits to complex systems. Additionally, PECs have gained popularity because of their lightweight, low-cost, and customizable nature. To achieve the best design for PECs, several criteria must be considered. Firstly, the conductor trace width and spacing must be optimized to prevent electrical shorts and electrical resistance. Secondly, the dielectric layer thickness must be compatible with the substrate, ensuring smooth electrical insulation between the conductor traces. Thirdly, the substrate material should be heat-resistant, mechanically strong, and have suitable thermal coefficient properties in relation to the circuit's components. Incorporating a good layout design to reduce unwanted electromagnetic effects and developing compatible deposition techniques for different materials, such as silver, copper, or graphene, is also crucial for optimizing the PEC's performance. Another essential criterion for designing PECs is the selection of suitable materials for fabrication. The materials chosen should have good adhesion to the substrate, be printable or depositable, easily accessible, corrosion-resistant, and exhibit long-term stability when exposed to diverse environmental conditions. Additionally, choosing the right deposition method for each material can significantly affect the PEC's end properties. The final criterion for designing PECs is the testing of the circuits' functionality and reliability. Properly testing the PEC's performance under various strains, stresses, and loads can ensure that the circuits meet specific design specifications and requirements. Performing reliability testing under accelerated ageing conditions can also affirm the PEC's durability over the longer term.
