Design Of Mobility Vehicles
Mobility vehicles — also known as Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) — are small, electric vehicles designed to help people with disabilities or limited mobility get around their local area. These vehicles come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from motorized wheelchairs to compact electric cars, and are typically used for short trips within a few miles of someone's home. Designing a good mobility vehicle requires addressing several important factors that directly impact its functionality and safety. Firstly, the vehicle must be easy to use and maneuver by people with varying levels of limited mobility. This involves providing intuitive controls, adjustable seating and legroom, and stability while driving, turning, and stopping. Secondly, the vehicle must be robust in construction, capable of withstanding the rigors of daily use, and making it easy to service and repair any faulty components. Safety is another critical aspect to consider in the design of these vehicles. This includes designing vehicles with adequate lighting and reflectors for visibility, wider turning radius to prevent tipping over, and well-positioned grab bars to provide riders with stability when getting in and out of the vehicle. The vehicle must also feature reliable brakes, suspension, and turn signals to ensure smooth and safe riding. Finally, mobility vehicles must look and feel modern and aesthetically appealing to attract their target customers. Aesthetics are primarily expected to focus on good color combinations and the use of visually appealing materials. A designer must harmoniously marry form and function when designing the mobility vehicles to make its users proud to move around in them.
