Design Of Escutcheons Of Metal

Design Of Escutcheons Of Metal

An escutcheon is a decorative and protective plate made of metal, typically brass or stainless steel, that is used to cover a keyhole or a lock cylinder on a door. It serves as a finishing touch to the door hardware, and adds a touch of elegance and style to any interior or exterior door. When designing an escutcheon, several criteria need to be considered to ensure that it is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional. The first consideration is the size and shape of the escutcheon. It should be designed to fit the lock cylinder or keyhole perfectly, without any gaps or overlaps. The shape should also complement the design of the door hardware, such as the door knob or lever. Another factor to consider is the finish of the escutcheon. It should be finished with a high-quality metal polish to achieve a lustrous shine that will last for years to come. The surface should also be easy to clean and maintain. The design of the escutcheon should also incorporate security features. It should be thick and sturdy enough to prevent tampering or forced entry. Additionally, it should be designed to make it difficult for anyone to insert any foreign object into the keyhole, such as a screwdriver or a wire. Overall, a good example of an escutcheon is one that is well-proportioned, has a seamless fit with the door hardware, has a high-quality finish, and provides adequate security measures.
