Design Of Electric Fences
Electric fences are a type of physical barrier designed to prevent unwanted entry or exit from an enclosed area by delivering a non-lethal electric shock to potential intruders. These fences work by sending pulsed electric shocks through the fence wires at a regular interval of two to three seconds, which serves as a psychological and physical deterrent to animals or human intruders. A good design of an electric fence should consider the following criteria: 1. Fence Posts: Strong and robust fence posts should be used to support the electric fence. It is recommended that materials like treated wood, fiberglass or PVC be used for optimal durability. 2. Wire Strength: The wire used in the electric fence should be strong and durable to withstand the tension from the fence. It is recommended that high-tensile wire is used with adequate thickness. 3. Grounding: Electrical current needs to complete a circuit to deliver a shock, so a good design of an electric fence should include proper grounding. The grounding system should be installed at regular intervals along the fence line and tested to ensure that there is an adequate flow of electricity. 4. Energizer/Battery: The energizer is the heart of the electric fence system. It converts electrical energy from the battery into a high voltage pulse of electricity. A good design should consider the size of the fence to determine the power requirements of the battery and energizer. 5. Warning Signs: A good design should include the use of warning signs to warn individuals of the presence of the electric fence. Signage should be designed to be conspicuous and placed along the fence.
