Design Of Ejectors
An ejector is a fluid mechanism designed to create a vacuum by converting the pressure energy of a motive fluid stream into kinetic energy. The motive fluid stream entrains a secondary fluid stream, which is then discharged at a higher velocity, creating a vacuum in the suction chamber. This vacuum can be used for a variety of purposes, such as removing air or other gases from a system, or creating a vacuum in a chamber. To design an efficient ejector, several criteria need to be taken into account. The first is the motive fluid source, which can be compressed air, steam, or water. The choice of motive fluid will depend on the application and the desired performance characteristics of the ejector. The next criterion is the geometry of the ejector, which can be optimized to maximize the entrainment ratio of the secondary fluid stream. The entrainment ratio is the ratio of the mass flow rate of the secondary fluid to the mass flow rate of the motive fluid. Another important factor in the design of ejectors is the nozzle design. The nozzle should be designed to maximize the velocity of the motive fluid stream while minimizing the pressure losses due to friction. This can be achieved by using a converging-diverging nozzle or by using a Venturi nozzle. The size of the suction chamber is also an important consideration. The size of the chamber should be optimized to maximize the volume flow rate of the entrained fluid while minimizing the pressure drop across the ejector. Finally, the materials used in the construction of the ejector should be chosen carefully to withstand the operating conditions and the fluids being handled. The materials should be resistant to corrosion, erosion, and wear. In summary, to design an efficient ejector, the selection of the motive fluid, the geometry of the ejector, the nozzle design, the size of the suction chamber, and the choice of materials should be carefully considered.
