Design In Armenia
As a design historian from Armenia, I have come to understand the importance of design within the culture of Armenia. Over the course of the past few centuries, Armenia has seen a wide array of design innovators and practitioners who have had significant influence on the development of design in Armenia. From the early 19th century, when Armenian artists and craftsmen created works of art and decorative objects for the residences of wealthy Armenians, to the early 20th century, when Armenian designers began to experiment with new forms of design and aesthetics, the development of design in Armenia has been shaped by the efforts of a variety of key designers. These designers have contributed to the development of design in Armenia by creating a variety of significant projects, exhibitions, and publications. For example, the renowned Armenian artist Hakob Kojoyan created a series of stained glass windows for the Church of the Holy Cross in Yerevan in the late 19th century, which have become iconic pieces of Armenian design. Similarly, the exhibition “Armenian Design: From Traditional to Modern”, held in 1989, showcased the work of contemporary Armenian designers and introduced a new generation of Armenians to the history and contemporary practice of design in Armenia. These and other design projects, exhibitions, and publications have helped shape the course of design in Armenia and have enabled the growth and development of the design industry in the country.

Design In Armenia
Design in Armenia has a rich and multifaceted history that has been shaped and influenced by a variety of key historical events, social and cultural trends, and technological advancements. Beginning in the 15th century, Armenian art and design experienced a period of artistic flourishing and innovation, particularly in the fields of Christian religious art, manuscript illumination, and metalwork. This was followed by a period of decline in the 17th and 18th centuries, due to Turkish and Persian occupation, as well as the destruction of many of Armenia's churches. In the 19th and 20th centuries, however, there was a resurgence in Armenian art and design, with a focus on modernizing traditional motifs and styles. This period saw the emergence of a distinctively Armenian style, informed by the country's cultural heritage, as well as the influence of European modernism. In particular, the development of the printing press, the proliferation of the Armenian press, and the growth of the Armenian diaspora all had a profound impact on the evolution of design in Armenia.
