Design Competition Patron

Patrons of a design award or competition are usually institutions or industrial organizations who provide patronage to the event. Patronage is usually granted through supervision or given after the examination of the competition if the goal of the competition matches that of the patron institution. Patrons for design competitions are usually cultural offices, design associations, international design councils, local authorities, government institutions etc. The most prestigious patrons do provide guidelines for organizers, and request them to follow these guidelines before granting the patronage, while some other patrons require a simpler assessment form. Some of the patrons could be said to “sell patronage” based on the fact that most organizers could obtain them by paying the required “patronage application fees” since their regulations are too wide and are easily matched by any sort of competition. In most cases, the organizers would use the granted patronage logos in their communication because patrons grant and share their own prestige with the organizers; a sort of co-branding occurs. Patronship is not always free. You could get one from design associations, if your organizations criteria meet theirs and if you could pay their bills for membership or patronage.
