He was born on May 21, 1916, in New York City and began his career as a singer on the radio show The Jack Benny Program. Day's sweet tenor voice and boyish charm quickly made him a fan favorite, and he soon became a regular on the show. Despite his success, Day's personal life was marked by tragedy. In 1982, he suffered a severe beating at the hands of two men in his home, which left him with permanent brain damage. He was unable to perform or care for himself and spent the rest of his life in a nursing home. Day passed away on June 22, 1988, at the age of 72. Day's legacy lives on through his recordings and performances, which continue to be celebrated by fans of classic Hollywood entertainment. Dennis Day
Canadian artist Dennis Day is best known for his paintings depicting industrial and urban landscapes. He often juxtaposes abstracted architectural forms within a narrative context to provide the backdrop of his works. His paintings speak to the changing nature of the built environment and its impact on the people who inhabit it. One of his most notable works, Entropy, is a large-scale painting that depicts a fragmentary cityscape that is destabilized by a catastrophic event. Another of Day's noteworthy works is Liminal State, which documents the intersection of memory and identity in the face of an ever-shifting cityscape. Day has exhibited across Canada, United States, and Europe, and his works are held in the permanent collections of the Art Gallery of Hamilton and the Art Gallery of Alberta.
