Deflecting Yokes
Deflecting yokes are a type of electromagnetic device used in cathode ray tube (CRT) technology. The purpose of the deflecting yoke is to control the movement of the electron beam inside the CRT. The yoke is made up of two coils of wire that are wound around the neck of the CRT. These coils are positioned perpendicular to each other and are responsible for controlling the horizontal and vertical movement of the electron beam. When an electrical current is applied to the deflecting yoke, a magnetic field is generated that interacts with the electron beam. The strength and direction of the magnetic field determines the path of the electron beam. By varying the current in the coils, the electron beam can be made to move in any direction. This allows for the creation of images on the CRT screen. Deflecting yokes are an essential component of CRT technology and were used in many different applications, including televisions, computer monitors, and oscilloscopes. However, with the advent of newer display technologies such as LCD and LED, CRT technology has become obsolete.
