Dasa House

Dasa House is an architecturally distinctive residential structure located in Munsanri, Dasa-eup, Dalseong-gun, Daegu, Korea, that exemplifies a sophisticated interplay of contrasting elements in contemporary residential architecture. Designed by architects Hohyun Park and Hyunjoo Kim, this remarkable dwelling, completed in 2016, masterfully balances opposing aesthetic principles through its innovative dual-facade approach. The structure's town-facing elevation features a rigid, dark composition utilizing metallic brick and black zinc, while the nature-oriented facade presents a softer aspect rendered in bright limestone, creating a harmonious dialogue with the adjacent bamboo woods. The architectural composition demonstrates exceptional spatial dynamics, with the interior volume expanding dramatically from the entrance to the living room, culminating in an ascending form that resembles a ridge line as it progresses to the upper floor. Occupying a site area of 743.0 square meters, with a gross floor area of 261.55 square meters, the house maintains a modest building coverage ratio of 28.9% and a gross floor ratio of 35.2%, effectively maximizing the available green space while adhering to site constraints imposed by planned future infrastructure. The reinforced concrete structure incorporates premium finishing materials including limestone, brick, zinc for the exterior, and marble for interior surfaces, reflecting a commitment to material quality and durability. The project, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, represents a significant achievement in residential architecture through its thoughtful response to site conditions, innovative spatial organization, and sophisticated material palette. The design's success lies in its ability to create a meaningful architectural dialogue between urban and natural contexts while maintaining a strong sense of spatial continuity and visual interest.
