Darin Korean Health Food Store

Darin Korean Health Food Store is an innovative retail concept and packaging design project that reimagines traditional Korean health food products for contemporary consumers, particularly targeting individuals in their twenties and thirties. This comprehensive design solution, created by designers Heesoo Son and Seoyeon Yoon, represents a significant departure from conventional health food store aesthetics, employing sophisticated graphic design principles and modern branding strategies. The design concept draws inspiration from Oriental medicine's emphasis on blood circulation as a fundamental healing principle, incorporating this motif through fluid linear patterns and distinctive iconography. The store's product range features seven carefully selected traditional ingredients: onion, black garlic, eel, pear, terrapin, red ginseng, and antlers, each presented in meticulously designed packaging that includes juice packs (100x165mm), small boxes (175x105x95mm), and larger presentation boxes (180x275x95mm). The design system employs a sophisticated color palette derived from natural ingredients, featuring both primary and secondary colors that reflect each product's origins and properties. A notable innovation is the development of a custom typeface specifically created for product naming, enhancing brand identity cohesion. The project, which was completed in November 2018, earned recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category, acknowledging its contribution to modernizing traditional health food retail presentation while maintaining cultural authenticity. The design successfully addresses the challenge of making traditional health products more appealing to younger demographics through clean, contemporary aesthetics and clear graphic communication, effectively bridging the gap between traditional Korean health practices and modern consumer expectations.
