Daihatsu Auto Repair Shop is an innovative architectural project completed in 2023, located in Osaka, Japan, that harmoniously combines a maintenance facility with a contemporary showroom space. The structure's distinctive design features a futuristic aesthetic characterized by flowing curves and edge-free contours, creating a spaceship-like appearance that challenges traditional automotive facility architecture. The building's exterior employs a minimalist color palette, predominantly utilizing white as its base color, complemented by subtle wood and gray accents, allowing the strategic placement of brand elements to create maximum visual impact. The 271.2-square-meter facility, situated on a 744.6-square-meter site, incorporates advanced design elements including floor-to-ceiling glass walls with seamless butt joints, creating an illusion of a single curved glass surface that maximizes visibility and natural light penetration. The maintenance area introduces an innovative approach by maintaining visual transparency to the exterior, departing from conventional closed workshop designs, while featuring an artistic lighting arrangement that resembles scattered illuminated elements suspended in space. The structure's materiality combines steel splint panels, silicate calcium board, plaster paint, and various modern finishing materials to achieve its sophisticated appearance. This Iron A' Design Award-winning project, designed by Shunsuke Ohe, demonstrates exceptional achievement in architectural innovation, successfully addressing the dual challenges of creating both a functional service space and an attractive showroom while maintaining harmony with the urban landscape.
