Cylinder Liners
Cylinder liners, also known as sleeves, are cylindrical components that are inserted into the engine block of an internal combustion engine. These liners serve as the inner wall of the cylinder, providing a smooth and durable surface for the piston to move up and down. Cylinder liners are typically made of cast iron or steel, and are designed to withstand the high temperatures and pressures generated by the combustion process. The purpose of cylinder liners is to protect the engine block from wear and tear caused by the movement of the piston. Without a liner, the piston would come into direct contact with the metal of the engine block, causing damage to both the piston and the block itself. Cylinder liners also help to maintain the integrity of the engine's combustion chamber, preventing leaks and ensuring that the engine runs smoothly and efficiently. There are several different types of cylinder liners, including wet liners and dry liners. Wet liners are inserted into the engine block and are in direct contact with the engine coolant, which helps to regulate the temperature of the engine. Dry liners, on the other hand, are not in contact with the coolant and rely on the engine oil to provide lubrication and cooling. Overall, cylinder liners are an essential component of any internal combustion engine, providing a durable and reliable surface for the piston to move against. By protecting the engine block from wear and tear, cylinder liners help to extend the life of the engine and ensure that it runs smoothly and efficiently.
