Cutting Space Hair Salon is an innovative interior design project completed in 2018, encompassing a 97-square-meter space that revolutionizes the traditional hair salon concept through sophisticated spatial planning and aesthetic considerations. The design, created by Wei-Pin Wu and Chao-Yang Chen, demonstrates exceptional mastery in transforming an existing apartment structure into a contemporary salon environment that received the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category. The space is artfully divided into three distinct zones - entrance, reception, and work area - each characterized by thoughtful material transitions and strategic lighting configurations that enhance visual layering. The design's distinctive feature lies in its sharp linear tailoring, evident from the chamfered entrance elevation through to the partition screens, creating a sophisticated visual barrier while maintaining spatial fluidity. The salon incorporates innovative solutions for space optimization, including a dedicated photography booth and cleverly concealed storage spaces behind mirror cabinets for equipment and folding chairs. The designers employed low-reflexivity metallic materials to maintain a sense of lightness and flow throughout the space, while the careful manipulation of dark and light tones creates effective spatial boundaries and visual interest. The project's success lies in its ability to reimagine the hair styling process through architectural elements, where the spatial textures and color boundaries create an engaging sensory experience for clients. This sophisticated approach to salon design, which earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition, demonstrates how thoughtful interior architecture can enhance both the functional and experiential aspects of a commercial space.
