Curious Boxes Residential Design is an innovative residential interior design project that exemplifies the creative interpretation of spatial relationships through the metaphorical use of boxes, conceived and executed by architectural designer Tommy Hui. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project, completed in Hong Kong in 2018, employs a sophisticated conceptual framework based on the theme of box encounter, symbolizing the union of a newlywed couple through distinct spatial volumes defined by varying colors and materials. The design ingeniously addresses the challenges of a compact floor plan through strategic architectural interventions, including the implementation of white ceilings and walls to enhance brightness, the careful integration of light troughs and spotlights in lieu of traditional chandeliers, and the incorporation of a semi-open kitchen design featuring a half-height glass partition that facilitates natural light circulation. The interior scheme is characterized by thoughtfully curated color zones, including a Nordic-inspired dining area featuring pink and green wall treatments complemented by pink and gray furnishings, a master bedroom conceived as a pristine white box, and a living room anchored by a warm wood-toned television cabinet that doubles as an architectural element defining an adjacent bedroom space.
